I went to see "Open Range" this afternoon. It was good.

Just thought i'd let everybody know that the power grid is still up and running fine in Groves...
Off-Day...The Summer 2 semester ended yesterday, and today I began a full 2-week holiday until school starts back for Fall. More teacher appreciation gifts came yesterday during finals including store-bought cookies from student Michella Dumas. I made it to Lovett dental today for my routine exam, and get to go back next week for two fillings (one had come undone a while back). In the next room was a teenager who was having 4 teeth removed. I kept hearing his mom say "I told you you need to brush your teeth!!!". I think he was from vidor, or rural Orange county. Two of my computers were infected with the Blaster worm, but all is good now...

True kindness and appreciation... Last night was the Final Exam in my night class. Props and shout-outs to all of the students who made the class fun, especially those who came to the final bearing appreciation gifts. I received tons of candy (bag of milky way, reese's , skittles, now and later, etc...), food from popeye's, and a $10 gift certificate to Cheddar's. Student/Bartender Mary Hooker even offered me a night of free drinks if i stopped by the bar where she works. Knowing her, she probably just wants to get me liquored up so she can take advantage of me ;)...Today, i'm expecting more gifts from the day time COSC 1301 class...

Power... I feel as if i've regained my power/juice after yesterday's shocking events. Both of my summer COSC 1301 classes went well, although several in the morning session continue to struggle badly. Props to night student Lara Alvarez for bringing me a box of Russel Stover chocolates. She got them free at work, and cared enough to give them to me. I'm expecting many other appreciation gifts tomorrow---student and popeye's chicken employee linda sherlyn wallace promised to bring me an 8 pc. dark meal with biscuits and cajun rice to enjoy during the final...After tonight's class, HVAC instructor Darrell Grisom and i headed over to Rio Rita's on Crockett street for some above average mexican food. I ordered the Chile Relleno and it was fantastic. We were served/entertained by a trio of girls from Vidor---Jenny, Jenna, and Lara. Lara (not the same as lara alvarez mentioned above), was our main server, and she did an o.k.job, although she was a bit too conscientious/responsible. She also proudly displayed a huge hole in her ear that was the result of some odd birth defect. She became a lot less attractive after that. The other two mostly loitered around our table in an effort to avoid work. Jenny is the Lamar University Mascot "Big Red" and gave both darrell and i an autographed picture. She did the least amount of work, although she was coerced into sweeping at closing time...

Cruel, Cruel Fate...I thought i had found the perfect girl...She was single (she told me last month that there were no men in her life), free of abusive ex-boyfriends, not uptight (able to tolerate my sense of humor), money-wise (she told me she would prefer to get married on a cruise ship rather that have an expensive wedding) and not one of my students (she was enrolled in my COSC class for fall, but had to drop suddenly last week). I was almost 1000 % positive that she was highly interested, and had decided to make my move before too much longer!!! Unfortunately, i saw her today AT MY CHURCH with another man !!! It's especially strange because i have never invited her to my church, she lives 45 minutes away, and there are multitudes of other churches just like PBC that are much, much closer to her. I can only guess that fate made it a point to drive a wedge between us...
Village Creek Camping Trip...This weekend's camping/canoeing trip to beautiful Village Creek State Park was absolutelty fantastic. Albert, Jon, Mark and myself saw lots of wildlife --- deer, armadillos, wild hogs, squirrels, grackels, lizards, banana spiders, and thousands of daddy long legs... We took the canoe down to the sandbar, and hung out there for awhile. We also did lots of hiking, played cards, cooked hot dogs, ate hot dogs, and downed a box of oatmeal cream pies. The park is well kept with a clean bath house, and our tent site, site # 3, rocked...
